Listening Comprehension
The Paper 2 listening section is 25% of your grade, out of 25 marks. Audio texts range from news reports to advertisements: learn the formats and how to manage two listens.
Key idea
You hear each recording twice. Use the first listen for the main idea and speaker. Use the second listen to answer specific questions and catch numbers or names.

Two-listen strategy
Use both playbacks strategically — the marks come from the second listen, but the first sets you up to succeed.
First listen
- → Identify the topic and context
- → Identify who is speaking and to whom
- → Identify the overall purpose (inform, warn, persuade?)
- → Note numbers, names, and key words
- → Identify tone / attitude
Second listen
- → Answer specific factual questions
- → Verify numbers and details from first listen
- → Confirm tone / attitude answer
- → Complete any vocabulary matching
- → Cross-check any answers you were unsure of
